At the heart of air frying lies a simple yet effective principle: the use of hot air circulation to cook food. Unlike traditional frying methods that rely on submerging food in hot oil, air fryers create a convection effect, where hot air rapidly circulates around the food. This mimics the results of deep frying, producing a crispy exterior while keeping the inside tender and moist. The air fryer’s ability to achieve such textures with minimal oil is what sets it apart.

Ingredients

1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs, beaten

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

Cooking spray or olive oil spray

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

Prep the Shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Squeeze a little lemon juice over them if desired for added flavor.

Set Up Breading Station: In three separate shallow bowls, set up the breading station. In the first bowl, add the all-purpose flour. In the second bowl, combine the beaten eggs. In the third bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).

      Coat the Shrimp:

        - First, dredge each shrimp in the flour, shaking off the excess.

          - Next, dip the flour-coated shrimp into the beaten eggs, ensuring it’s fully coated.

            - Finally, roll the shrimp in the seasoned panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure they adhere well. Place the breaded shrimp on a plate or tray.

Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.

Air Fry the Shrimp: Spray the basket of the air fryer with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer, making sure they don’t touch. You may need to do this in batches depending on the size of your air fryer. Lightly spray the top of the shrimp with olive oil spray.

Cook: Air fry the shrimp for 6-8 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.

Garnish and Serve: Once cooked, transfer the shrimp to a serving platter. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side for an extra burst of flavor.
