The roots of the Caprese salad trace back to the island of Capri in Italy, where the dish was originally created as a simple combination of fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, and fragrant basil. This classic Italian salad embodies the colors of the Italian flag: red, white, and green. Traditionally, Caprese salad is served with a drizzle of high-quality olive oil, a sprinkle of salt, and sometimes a dash of balsamic vinegar, making it a staple in Italian cuisine.

1 cup fresh basil leaves, roughly chopped

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

2 tbsp balsamic vinegar

1 clove garlic, minced

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.

Prepare the Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and chopped basil.

Dress the Salad: Drizzle the dressing over the pasta mixture and toss gently to coat all ingredients evenly.

Adjust Seasoning: Taste the salad and adjust seasoning with more salt, pepper, or additional balsamic vinegar if desired.

Chill and Serve: For best flavor, cover and refrigerate for about 30 minutes before serving. Serve chilled or at room temperature, and enjoy!
