Ingredients

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

8 slices of thick bread (brioche or challah preferred)

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup maple syrup

Pinch of salt

Fresh fruit for garnish (optional)

Whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter and let it melt.

Once the butter is melted, dip each slice of bread in the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 30 seconds on each side.

Place the soaked bread slices onto the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the skillet and set aside on a warm plate.

In the same skillet, add the remaining butter and brown sugar. Stir to combine and allow it to melt and bubble for about 2 minutes.

Drizzle the maple syrup into the caramel sauce while continuing to stir until it is well mixed.

Carefully return the cooked French toast slices to the skillet, allowing them to absorb some of the caramel sauce for about 1 minute on each side.

Remove from heat and serve the caramelized French toast warm, drizzled with extra caramel sauce, and topped with fresh fruit and whipped cream if desired.
