Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

3/4 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)

1 tbsp sugar

1/2 tsp salt

3 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough starts to form.

Knead the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shape the Breadsticks: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 10 inches long. To shape into hearts, create a loop with the rope, twist the ends together, and then secure them to form the heart shape.

Second Rise: Place shaped breadsticks on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.

Preheat your Oven: While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Season: After the second rise, brush the breadsticks with olive oil and sprinkle garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and Parmesan cheese on top.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped parsley. Serve warm with marinara sauce or garlic butter for dipping.
