Ingredients
  

  • 1 whole turkey 12-14 lbs
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • ¼ cup fresh sage finely chopped
  • ¼ cup fresh rosemary finely chopped
  • ¼ cup fresh thyme finely chopped
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 2 onions quartered
  • 4 medium carrots peeled and chopped
  • 4 stalks celery chopped
  • Fresh herbs for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • Combine softened butter with chopped sage, rosemary, thyme, minced garlic, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  • Pat the turkey dry and season the cavity with salt and pepper; stuff with onions, carrots, and celery.
  • Slide fingers under the skin of the turkey and spread half of the herb butter mixture beneath it.
  • Rub remaining herb butter over the exterior and drizzle maple syrup on top.
  • Place turkey on a roasting rack in a large pan and pour chicken broth into the bottom.
  • Roast turkey, basting every 30 minutes, until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C), about 3-4 hours.
  • Remove from oven and let rest for at least 30 minutes before carving.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
