Ingredients

For the Donuts:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

2 large eggs

1/2 cup whole milk

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tsp vanilla extract

Oil for frying

For the Glaze:

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

3 tbsp milk (more if needed)

1 tsp vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

Instructions

Make the Donut Dough:

    - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg until well combined.

      - In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.

        - Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

          Shape the Donuts:

            - Transfer the donut dough to a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick.

              - Using a donut cutter or two round cookie cutters (one larger and one smaller for the hole), cut out the donuts and holes. Gather the scraps, re-roll, and cut until all dough is used.

                Fry the Donuts:

                  - In a deep pot or frying pan, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully place a few donuts at a time in the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding.

                    - Fry for about 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

                      Prepare the Glaze:

                        - In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth. Adjust consistency with more milk or powdered sugar if necessary.

                          Glaze the Donuts:

                            - While the donuts are still warm, dip the tops in the glaze. Allow the excess glaze to drip off, then place them on a wire rack to let the glaze set.

                              Serve:

                                - Enjoy the donuts fresh, or store them in an airtight container for up to two days.
