Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar (optional)

1 cup water (or milk for a richer taste)

2 tablespoons olive oil (or melted butter)

Extra flour for dusting

Optional toppings: herbs, garlic powder, or seeds for flavor

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Whisk them together until well mixed.

Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients, then add the water and olive oil. Stir until the dough starts to come together.

Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Knead gently for about 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic, adding a little flour if the dough is too sticky.

Once kneaded, form the dough into a round or oval shape, about 1 inch thick. You can sprinkle some herbs or garlic powder on top if desired for added flavor.

Heat a non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Lightly oil the pan if necessary.

Carefully place the dough in the hot skillet. Cover with a lid and cook for 5-7 minutes on one side. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking as the steam is crucial for rising.

After 5-7 minutes, check if the bottom is golden brown. If it is, flip the bread over, cover again, and let it cook for another 5-7 minutes until fully cooked through.

Once both sides are nicely browned and the bread has risen, take it off the stove. Let it cool slightly before slicing.

Enjoy your freshly baked stovetop bread warm with butter, or serve alongside your favorite dip or dish!
