Southern-Style Green Bean Casserole Recipe for Special Occasions
This Southern-style green bean casserole is a creamy and cheesy dish, perfect for Thanksgiving gatherings. It's topped with crispy fried onions for added crunch and flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh green beans trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
- 1 can 10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup crispy fried onions
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and blanch the green beans for about 5 minutes.
- Drain the green beans and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup and sour cream, then add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Fold the blanched green beans and half of the cheddar cheese into the creamy mixture.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish and spread evenly.
- Top with the remaining cheddar cheese and half of the crispy fried onions.
- Bake for 25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- Sprinkle the remaining crispy fried onions on top and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
- Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving.
