Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water) for brushing

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well. In a separate bowl, combine the warm milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling: While the dough is rising, mix the chopped nuts with brown sugar and a pinch of cinnamon in a small bowl. Set aside.

Shape the Bread: Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle about 10 inches in diameter. On the first circle, spread a thin layer of nut filling. Place the second circle on top and repeat the filling process. Repeat with the third piece of dough. Finally, place the fourth circle on top without any filling.

Cut and Twist: Place a large cup or glass in the center of the stacked dough. Using a sharp knife, cut the dough into 16 equal sections, leaving the inner circle uncut. Taking two sections at a time, twist them away from each other to create a star shape.

Final Rise: Carefully place the twisted bread on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover with a towel and let rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Brush and Bake: Gently brush the top of the bread with the egg wash. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature, tearing off pieces to enjoy the delicious layers.
