Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian Rolls, cut into quarters

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 cup crushed pineapple (drained, optional)

1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional)

Maple syrup, for drizzling

Powdered sugar, for serving

Fresh fruit, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Baking Dish: Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

Arrange the Rolls: Place the quartered sweet Hawaiian rolls into the prepared baking dish, making sure to distribute them evenly. If using, sprinkle the crushed pineapple and shredded coconut over the rolls.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg until fully combined.

Combine: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the arranged Hawaiian rolls, ensuring all pieces are well-soaked. Gently press down on the rolls with a spatula to ensure they absorb the liquid.

Chill (Optional): For a more developed flavor, cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight. If baking immediately, skip this step.

Bake: Remove from the refrigerator if chilled. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until the top is puffed and golden brown.

Serve: Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup, dusted with powdered sugar, and garnished with fresh fruit if desired.
