Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), softened

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Make the Brownie Layer: In a medium saucepan, melt the 1/2 cup of butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined. Sift together cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder, then fold into the butter mixture until just combined. Pour the brownie mixture into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Make the Cookie Layer: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Layer the Cookie Dough: Carefully spread the cookie dough over the brownie layer. Use a spatula to smooth it out gently.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and Serve: Allow the brookies to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before lifting them out using the parchment paper. Let them cool completely on a wire rack before slicing into squares.

Enjoy: Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!
